Ayaz Ali Khan Successfully Defended His Ph.D

 

Ayaz Ali Khan has successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on March 18, 2021. According to two foreign and two internal examiners, his thesis was technically sound, well written, and has significant novelty. I was delighted when the examiners appreciated his efforts by noting that they found Ayaz’s thesis one of the most technically sound amongst those they evaluated, for other universities, in the past. The title of his thesis was "Energy and Performance Efficient Resource Management in Containerized Datacenters". During his Ph.D. duration, he has published 11 research papers in well-reputed, CORE ranked, transactions and journals, making a total Impact Factor of 50+. Furthermore, his thesis document has appeared in the following 7 REGULAR publications.

National Research Program For Universities (Call For Proposals)

 

NRPU is a flagship Research Program of HEC for funding research grants on competitive merit for high-quality and promising scientific research projects that demonstrate strategic relevance and cast impact to the local industry and society. The program is open for contributions related to both basic and applied research. NRPU aims to stimulate scientific excellence and the advancement of knowledge by allowing researchers the freedom to formulate by themselves the research concept and method.

The NRPU grant awards will be made to the host higher education institution of the lead academic – faculty – associated with the project, and administered through the appropriate ORIC on campus. Principal Investigator should be a faculty member at higher education institution in Pakistan and encouraged to submit proposals that are collaborative in scope, with teams including junior and senior academic staff, both male and female researchers and appropriate sectoral/ industrial collaborators.  PIs are also encouraged to include students as part of the project team who have worked on the academic research underpinning the NRPU proposal.

Call for proposals for the National Research Program for Universities (2021-2022) is now open. 

Applications can be submitted through online portal research.hec.gov.pk after 01.04.2021. Last date for submission of Full Project Proposal (FPP) is 30.04.2021 (11.59 PM Pakistan Standard Time).

سپیکر قومی اسمبلی اسد قیصر نےعبدالولی خان یونیورسٹی کے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ظہور الحق اور ان کی ٹیم سے اسلام آباد میں ملاقات کی۔ اسپیکراسد قیصر نے کہا ہے کہ ٹائمز ہائیر ایجوکیشن کے تحت ابھرتی ہوئی معیشتوں کی جامعات میں 150 واں پوزیشن حاصل کرنا عبدالولی خان یونیورسٹی مردان کی ایک قابل ستائش کامیابی ہے۔یونیورسٹی کا یہ اعزاز حاصل کرنا یونیورسٹی کی انتظامیہ، اساتذہ اور طلبہ کی لگن اور محنت کا مظہر ہے۔

اسپیکر اسد قیصر نے کہا کہ سی پیک کے تحت قائم ہونے والے صنعتی منصوبوں کے مکمل فعال ہونے سے پاکستان خاص طور پر صوبہ خیبرپختونخواہ معاشی ترقی کی راہ پر گامزن ہو گا۔اس سلسلے میں عبدالولی خان یونیورسٹی کاکردار اہم ہوگا۔انہوں نے ملک کو درپیش معاشرتی، معاشی ،سائنسی اور تکنیکی امور پر تحقیق کے فروغ کے لئے ریسرچ کی بہترین سہولیات کی فراہمی کےلئے اپنے ہرممکن تعاون کا یقین دلایا۔

پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ظہورالحق نے بتایا کہ تحقیقی کارکردگی کی بنیاد پر عبدالولی خان یونیورسٹی کو عالمی درجہ بندی میں 200 واں مقام حاصل ہے۔یہ یونیورسٹی ایشیاء میں 24 ویں اور جنوبی ایشیاء میں تیسری پوزیشن پر ہے۔انہوں نے اسپیکر اسد قیصر اور خیبرپختونخواہ کی صوبائی حکومت کا یونیورسٹی کو مطلوبہ وسائل کی دستیابی اور تعاون کے لیے ان کے تعاون پر ان کا شکریہ ادا کیا۔ بعدازاں وائس چانسلر نے اسپیکر کو یونیورسٹی کا سووینئر پیش کیا۔ اس موقع پر سینٹر شبلی فراز اور ممبر قومی اسمبلی انور تاج بھی موجود تھے۔

Social Activities Week at UCW (University College For Women)

 

 The social activities week was arranged by University College for Women (AWKUM). The event was organized by Dr. Naseem Rafiq, Principal, UCW and Ms. Robina Zakir, Lecturer in Home Economics. The ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by inauguration by the Principal.

The Principal along-with faculty/staff members attended this event. They visited different stalls and appreciated the student’s efforts. Details of the activities is as under:

1. Cooking and Painting competition was held on Monday, March 01, 2021. 

2. Inter class cleanliness and decoration competition was held on Tuesday, March 02, 2021. 

3. Culture day was observed on Wednesday, March 03, 2021. 

4. The ceremony as concluded with prize and certificate distribution on Thursday 04, 2021.

Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Universities Rankings 2021

 


By the grace of Allah, the almighty, another accomplishment is made. Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKUM) is ranked 150th by Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Universities Rankings 2021.

Times Higher Education (THE) has today announced the result of its Emerging Economies ranking, which includes institutions in countries or regions classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”. The ranking demonstrates the growing strength of secondary emerging countries, heavily driven by Pakistan, China, and Russia. A record, 606 universities ranked this year from 48 countries and regions, 14% more than in 2020 (533), as 86 universities, including AWKUM, made their debut. It is very positive to that Pakistan and is making significant gains from the secondary emerging markets. About 77% of universities (10 out of 13) from Pakistan improved or maintained their previous ranking positions. Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan debuts at 150th. China grabbed the top Five positions while Only two universities from Pakistan made their way to top 150 universities worldwide. Quaid-e Azam University Islamabad secured 105th position and AWKUM , an eleven years old university and competing for the first time, went straight to 150th position.

The Times Higher Education (THE) provides Internationally acclaimed and trusted World University Rankings based on performance data.

Earlier this year THE announced World’s Universities Ranking 2020-2021 and according to that AWKUM is No.1 University in Pakistan and 510th in overall world ranking (among 1527 institutions from 93 countries). Based on our research we are ranked 200th in world citation ranking.  The university is also ranked 24th in Asia (in 32 countries and 627 universities) and 3rd in South Asia (in 5 countries and 95 universities). This achievement indicates that our faculty is tremendously talented, dedicated and productive as teachers and researchers.

It is important to mention that participation in ranking enables an institution not only to brag but also to ascertain the areas that need to be strengthened. This is where the vision of the leadership takes the institution to new heights.

All Pakistan ISLP Competition Held During 18th International Conference on Statistical Sciences

An undergrad students' team of the Department of Statistics, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan got 2nd position in all Pakistan International Statistical Literacy Project (ISLP) of ISI poster competition held on Feb 18, 2021 during the 18th International Conference on Statistical Sciences organized by Islamic Countries Society of Statistical Sciences (ISOSS) @ Lahore. A total of 23 teams participated in the competition from all over the country. The undergraduate team who participated in the competition were Ms. Sheema Gul, Ms. Hifsa Mehtab, and Ms. Bushra Zia under the supervision of Dr. Zardad Khan. The team members were led by Dr. Dost Muhammad Khan, Chairman, Department of Statistics for this competition who urged that such competitions may be arranged frequently in order to provide an opportunity for the talented students to flourish.

Prof. Dr. Saeed Islam, Dean, Faculty of Physical and Numerical Sciences congratulated the team members and faculty for winning 2nd position in the ISLP poster competition and added that this was really a very encouraging news for all of including students, staff and faculty of the department of statistics.

The Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor ul Haq congratulated the team members and the Department of Statistics for this great achievement.  AWKUM students have all the potential to produce quality research and compete both domestically and internationally, the Vice Chancellor added.
