Mr. Saifullah, from the Department of Biochemistry, has successfully defended his MPhil thesis

His research, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdul Wadood, was titled “Identification of New and Potent Urease Inhibitors via QSAR-Based Virtual Screening, Molecular Docking, and Molecular Dynamics Simulation.” The study focused on the computational identification of novel therapeutic agents, utilizing modern drug discovery techniques such as QSAR modeling, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulations to explore effective urease inhibitors.

The thesis was evaluated by Dr. Tauseef Rehana from Women University Mardan, who served as the external examiner for the defense proceedings.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Wadood praised the quality of Mr. Saifullah’s research and highlighted its potential impact in the field of computational biochemistry and drug discovery. He emphasized the importance of integrating computational tools into biomedical research to accelerate therapeutic innovation.

Dr. Shahid Ullah of the Department of Biochemistry at AWKUM successfully defended his PhD thesis

 Dr. Shahid Ullah of the Department of Biochemistry at AWKUM successfully defended his PhD thesis, entitled "Aberrant Gene Expression Profiling and Causal Variant Identification in Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia Patients from the Pathan Ethnic Group of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan" at the auditorium of the Department of Biochemistry, Garden Campus, AWKUM. He conducted his research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif Lodhi, with Prof. Dr. Asifullah Khan serving as co-supervisor.

Associate Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sheeraz Ahmad (University Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi) and Associate Prof. Dr. Naeem Khan (Department of Chemistry, Kohat University of Science and Technology) attended his public defense as examiners. Faculty members of the Biochemistry department, the Director of Academics at AWKUM, and students were also present.

Dr. Shahid Ullah addressed questions from the examiners and participants with scholarly precision. His thesis was evaluated by international experts, including Prof. Dr. Ronald P. Kuiper Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology Netherlands and Prof. Dr. Jörg D. Hoheisel (Head of the Department of Functional Genome Analysis, German Cancer Research Center, DKFZ, Germany), as well as Associate Prof. Dr. Naeem Khan (Department of Chemistry, Kohat University of Science and Technology).

During defense, Dr. Shahid Ullah also spent six months at Cardiff University, United Kingdom (UK), through the IRSIP program, working as a guest researcher under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alex Tonks. He has published two research articles based on his PhD research in peer-reviewed international journals and an additional six articles in international journals outside of his PhD work.

Nine MPhil Scholar of Biochemistry, Successfully Defended Their Thesis

Nine MPhil Scholar from Department of Biochemistry successfully defended their thesis viva exam on 13th September 2019. 

The scholars included Ms. Chandni Hayat, Ms. Huma Rafiq, Ms. Luba Riaz, Ms. Mahnoor Mumtaz, Ms. Sadaf, Ms. Sapna Quraish, Mr. Wajid Hussain, Ms. Haleema Ihsan and Ms. Amar Ajmal. 

Five External examiners from 5 different universities including Dr. Noor Muhammad (KUST), Dr. Malik Badshah (QAU Islamabad), Dr. Fazal Adnan (NUST Islamabad), Dr. Abdur Rauf (University of Swabi) and Dr. Muhammad Ajmal (Bacha Khan University Charsadda) evaluated and recommended the scholars for the award of MPhil degree in Biochemistry

Fully Funded PhD Fellowships in The Field of Biochemistry

ORIC at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, is pleased to announce the selection process for two fully funded PhD fellowships in the field of Biochemistry from a reputed University of Brazil.

These fellowships are resulted from an agreement established for an initial period of three years between Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) and Federal University of Ceará (UFC) Brazil during the visit of Prof. Francisco A.P Campos, from Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology UFC to AWKUM in October, 2017.

Eligibility Criteria: MS/MPhil in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or relevant field.

Applicants from all over KP are invited. Although preference will be given to competent applicants who has/had any affiliation with AWKUM (Those who did a BS/MSc/MS/MPhil or currently enrolled in PhD from AWKUM) however, in case of unavailability of the competent applicants from AWKUM, those from other Universities could also avail the opportunity.

Deadline: Last date for application submission is 31st of October, 2018.
