AWKUM Achieves Milestone: HEC Grants NOC for PhD Program in Law

 

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad has granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) for the launch of a PhD program in the Department of Law. This significant development was confirmed by the Director Academics, Prof. Dr. Saeed Islam.

In light of this approval, AWKUM has officially opened admissions for the PhD program in Law, with the last date for online application submission set for October 23, 2024. Prospective candidates are encouraged to apply through the university’s online portal.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah commended the efforts of Director Academics Prof. Dr. Saeed Islam and Chairman of the Law Department Dr. Zubair Khan in achieving this milestone. He highlighted that AWKUM is now the only university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offering a PhD program in Law, and the fourth university in Pakistan to receive this prestigious honor.

Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah Appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan

 

Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, has been appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM). The official notification was issued by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Higher Education Department, in accordance with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act-2012.

On the advice of the Honorable Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr. Zahir Shah has assumed charge of the office of Vice-Chancellor, effective today, September 26, 2024. He will hold this position for a tenure of two years.

The appointment of Dr. Zahir Shah will strengthen the academic and administrative framework of the university, contributing towards the overall development and progress of AWKUM.

AWKUM Finalizes 2024-25 Strategic Plan for Student Support Services under the USAID’s HESSA Project:

 

Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) has finalized the 2024-25 strategic plan for Student Support Services under USAID's Higher Education System Strengthening Activity (HESSA) project. A pivotal meeting was held on 9^th September 2024, led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Vice-Chancellor of AWKUM, with the participation of Ms. Asma Mohsin, Manager of Student Support Services for USAID HESSA, Mr. Hassan Khan, Registrar, and the leads of seven focal areas.

The strategic plan for the following focal areas was finalized:

1.      Alumni Engagement

2.      Career Services

3.      Financial Aid

4.      Mental Health

5.      Micro Enterprise Development

6.      Student Leadership & Programming

7.      Executive Leadership Track: Student Affairs

During the meeting, an action plan for the implementation of these services was also outlined, ensuring a comprehensive and strategic approach to student development for the upcoming academic year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, emphasized AWKUM’s commitment to delivering top-tier student support services. He reiterated that the university administration would provide all necessary resources and support to implement the Student Support Services Plan effectively.

This initiative highlights AWKUM’s dedication to fostering a supportive and empowering environment for its students.
