AWKUM Achieves Milestone with Approval of Long-Pending Statutory Amendments

We are delighted to announce that the long-pending amendments in the University Statutes, initiated in 2018, have been approved by the Honorable Chancellor, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, AWKUM / Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Our sincere gratitude goes to the Honorable Chancellor, the Higher Education Department, and the members of the Statutes Review Committee — including representatives from the Finance, HED, and Establishment Departments — as well as to the former Vice Chancellors, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khurshid, Prof. Dr. Zahoor ul Haq, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, and Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, and former Registrars, Mr. Adil Khan, Mr. Muhammad Saleem, and Mr. Sayim Sohail, along with members of the Syndicate and Senate, for their valuable guidance and efforts in making this achievement possible.

It is equally important to acknowledge the dynamic and committed leadership of the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jamil Ahmad, whose vision and dedication were instrumental in bringing the long-pending amendments in the Statutes to fruition. Under his guidance, the Statutes were finalized and approved, paving the way for key institutional reforms. In addition, he has initiated transformative measures aimed at modernizing and strengthening AWKUM, including a comprehensive digitization drive, establishment of an Endowment Fund to ensure financial sustainability, launch of an online job portal, implementation of an ERP system, and solarization projects to promote energy efficiency. These initiatives reflect his unwavering commitment to the welfare of employees, students, and the broader community, and have laid a strong foundation for the University’s future development.

The approval of the amended Statutes paves the way for significant reforms, including promotion opportunities for support staff, updated Leave Statutes, a Grievance Redressal Mechanism, and other measures essential for institutional development.

This landmark milestone marks a new chapter in AWKUM’s growth and strengthens the University’s collective resolve to work together for sustained progress, transparency, stability, and excellence in higher education.

Closing Ceremony of HEC’s National Outreach Faculty Programme Held at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan

 

Mardan, May 26, 2025 — The closing ceremony of the National Outreach Faculty Programme, organised under the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), Islamabad, in collaboration with Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM), was held at the Conference Room, Garden Campus.

The ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Jamil Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, AWKUM; Dr. Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director, NAHE; Prof. Dr. Inayat Ullah Babar, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila; Mr. Hassan Khan, Registrar and Training Coordinator; and Mr. Ghulam Murtaza Goraya, Assistant Director, HEC.

Mr. Hassan Khan briefed the audience that the university successfully conducted a month-long training programme from April 28 to May 23, 2025, under which 30 Lecturers and Assistant Professors participated. The sessions were led by esteemed academicians and Vice Chancellors, covering nine comprehensive modules designed to enhance teaching and academic leadership skills.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Jamil Ahmad expressed gratitude to the NAHE team for extending this valuable opportunity to AWKUM faculty. He emphasized the critical role of teachers in higher education and encouraged faculty members to apply the knowledge gained during training and disseminate it within their departments. He reaffirmed that the core mission of any university is to serve its students as the primary stakeholders.

Dr. Noor Amna Malik underscored the importance of such andragogical training initiatives in empowering faculty. She lauded the enthusiasm and active participation of AWKUM faculty and described the trained participants as ambassadors of academic excellence, urging them to implement best practices within their teaching environments.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates by the Vice Chancellor and Managing Director NAHE. As a token of appreciation, souvenirs were presented to the distinguished guests.

Training Workshop Kicks Off Under National Outreach Program for Faculty at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan

 

A training workshop has started at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan under the National Outreach Program for Faculty, organized by the National Academy of Higher Education. The workshop is designed to enhance the professional skills of faculty members and improve the overall quality of education.

The Vice Chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Professor Dr. Zahir Shah, graced the event as the chief guest. Other notable participants included Professor Dr. Saleem Ullah, Professor Dr. Mohammad Tahir, Professor Dr. Sher Afzal, Dr. Zubair, the representative of Higher Education Islamabad, Mr. Ghulam Gorya, and Director of CDC Dr. Shah Hussain, among others.

Training Coordinator Mr. Hassan Khan, Registrar of AWKUM, welcomed all participants and provided an overview of the workshop. In his remarks, Mr. Khan emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for faculty members and highlighted that the workshop would focus on modern teaching methodologies, research techniques, and best practices to enhance the overall teaching and learning experience at the university. He encouraged faculty members to engage fully in the workshop activities and apply the knowledge gained to improve their teaching effectiveness.

In his address, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zahir Shah stressed the significance of such programs for the professional growth of faculty members. He noted that introducing modern teaching techniques and equipping educators with the necessary skills is crucial for maintaining high academic standards. He further emphasized that workshops like these are vital in helping faculty members adapt to the evolving educational landscape.

Mr. Ghulam Gorya, the representative of Higher Education Islamabad, shared his thoughts on the workshop's goals, underlining its aim to enhance the professional skills of faculty members and elevate the overall quality of education. He noted that the workshop would cover various academic methods, research innovations, and modern skills that would help faculty members teach more effectively.

Participants are engaging in practical experiences aimed at improving their teaching skills. They also have the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss ways to foster collaboration with other educational institutions. The workshop has provided an excellent platform for faculty members to enhance their abilities and stay updated with the latest trends in the education sector.

The training workshop, coordinated by Mr. Hassan Khan, will continue for 18 days, offering faculty members the chance to broaden their knowledge and refine their teaching methods.
