Muhammad Ilyas Khan Khalil from AWKUM's Department of Computer Science Successfully Defends PhD Thesis on Advanced Particle Swarm Optimization
Muhammad Ilyas
Khan Khalil, a dedicated PhD scholar from the Department of Computer Science at
AWKUM, successfully defended his PhD thesis in an open defense session. The
event, held at the Department of Computer Science, was well-attended by faculty
members, students, and notable guests.
The thesis,
titled "Modified Particle Swarm Optimizers for Expensive &
Multiobjective Optimization Problems," was supervised by Dr. Izaz
Ur Rahman. The research work of Mr. Khalil was meticulously evaluated by
esteemed examiners from both foreign and local institutions. The foreign
examiners included Dr. Peiying Zhang, Associate Professor at China
University of Petroleum (East China), and Dr. Muhammad Shafiq, Associate
Professor at the Cyberspace Institute of Advanced Technology, Guangzhou
University, China. The local examination was conducted by Dr. Muazzam Ali
Khan Khattak, Professor at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
The defense
session was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Sayed
Islam, with Prof. Sher Afzal and Dr. Nadeem Iqbal,
Chairperson of the Computer Science Department, in attendance. The session also
saw the participation of Registrar AWKUM, Mr. Hassan Khan, and Director
IT, Mr. Muhammad Rehan Swati. Local examiners Dr. Muazzam Ali Khan
Khattak and Dr. Shah Nazir, Assistant Professor at the University of
Swabi, were also present.
During the open
defense, Mr. Khalil was rigorously questioned by the examiners and audience
members. His thorough and insightful responses showcased his deep understanding
of the subject, ultimately leading to the successful awarding of his PhD
degree.
The event
concluded with congratulatory remarks from the attendees, recognizing Muhammad
Ilyas Khan Khalil's significant academic achievement.

Workshop Conducted on Cloud Computing by the AWS Cloud Club, Department of Computer Science, AWKUM
The
AWS Cloud Club, Department of Computer Science, AWKUM, conducted a
comprehensive workshop on Cloud Computing on April 26, 2024. The session aimed
to equip students with valuable insights into the latest technologies and
trends in Cloud Computing.
Under
the guidance of Dr. Aamir Akbar, an esteemed computer scientist and Director of
AWKUM AI & Robotics Lab, the workshop explored essential topics such as
Simple Storage Services, IAM Principles, and Virtual Private Cloud. Dr. Akbar's
expertise illuminated these concepts, providing attendees with a thorough
understanding of Cloud Computing's fundamental principles and applications.
The
event was meticulously organized by Ms. Rukhsar, a proactive BS student at the
Department of Computer Science, AWKUM, and a Google Scholar. Her dedication
ensured the smooth execution of the session, fostering an environment conducive
to learning and engagement.
Dr.
Nadeem Iqbal, Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science, AWKUM, graced
the event with his presence as it drew to a close. He distributed shields among
the guests and the trainer, while Dr. Amir Akbar distributed gifts among the
attendees, symbolizing their commitment to academic and professional growth.
The
workshop concluded on a high note, leaving participants inspired and empowered
to explore the limitless opportunities offered by Cloud Computing.

Mr. Hanif Ur Rahman from department of Computer Science, successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis.
Mr. Hanif Ur Rahman defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Offshore
Outsourcing Decision of Application Maintenance: A Study from Client-Vendor
Perspective” on December 16, 2022 at Department of Computer Science, Abdul Wali
Khan University Mardan, Pakistan.
He conducted his research under the supervision of Assistant
Professor Dr. Mushtaq Raza and Dr. Palwasha Afsar. The thesis report was
evaluated from Spain, Poland and University of Peshawar by Prof. Dr. Iván
García-Magariño, Prof. Dr. Robertas Damaševičius and Prof. Dr. Sara Shahzad
respectively. While his external examiners were Prof. Dr. Zahoor Jan Department
of Computer Science, Islamia College Peshawar and Prof. Dr. Sara Shahzad Department
of Computer Science, University of Peshawar.
Dr. Hanif Ur Rahman published five articles in International
reputed journals having top ranking; W category in HJRS by HEC.

successfully defended his PhD thesis on 11.03.2022 under the supervision of Dr.
Izaz Ur Rahman and co-supervisor Dr. Muhammad Zakarya. Title of the thesis was “Profit
aware resource provisioning and management in heterogeneous clouds”.

Ayaz Ali Khan Successfully Defended His Ph.D
Ayaz
Ali Khan has successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on March 18,
2021. According to two foreign and two internal examiners, his thesis was
technically sound, well written, and has significant novelty. I was delighted
when the examiners appreciated his efforts by noting that they found Ayaz’s
thesis one of the most technically sound amongst those they evaluated, for
other universities, in the past. The title of his thesis was "Energy
and Performance Efficient Resource Management in Containerized Datacenters".
During his Ph.D. duration, he has published 11 research papers
in well-reputed, CORE ranked, transactions and journals, making a
total Impact Factor of 50+. Furthermore, his thesis document has
