Miss Nazia Shah Mphil Scholar of Botany Defended Her MPhil Thesis
Miss
Nazia Shah MPhil Scholar of Botany defended her MPhil thesis at Department of
Botany, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. Prof. Dr. Ikramullah Khan was her
supervisor and Dr. Imtiaz (Bacha Khan University) was her co supervisor. Her
examiner was Prof Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan, Chairman, Department of Botany, Kohat
University of Science and Technology, Kohat. Her thesis title was “Impact of
climate change on different morphological and anatomical characteristics of Debregeasia sp.”. She is the first
graduate who completed her thesis in the field of Climate Change.

World soil day was celebrated today at Agriculture Department, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan like many other parts of the world. Internationally, world soil day is celebrated every year on 5th December to highlight the importance of soil and its role in life on earth surface. On this eve of world soil day A National Seminar was organized at Department of Agriculture, AWKUM in collaboration with international journal of Agricultural and Environmental Research and Eurasion School An International Education System. The Seminar was organized on the topic of “Stop Soil Erosion, Save our Future”. Dr. Kawsar Ali of Agriculture Department AWKUM was the chief organizer of the event. DrYousaf Noor, research officer at Cereal Crop Research Institute Pirsabak, and Dr Zafar Hayat Khan, Chairman Agriculture Department AWKUM were among the speakers. Faculty members, students and research officer from different institution participated in the seminar. While addressing the participants, invited speaker DrYousaf Noor Said “ Healthy soils are fundamental to produce clean water, preserve biodiversity, and increase resilience to the impacts of climate change, especially for poor family farmers of developing countries. This is reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals, and was highlighted during the recent UN Climate Conference in Marrakech, COP 22. The cause of soils and their protection is high on the international agenda, and calls for collaborative and coordinated efforts”.
Moreover, Dr Zafar Hayat Khan, Chairman Agriculture Dpt AWKUM, added “In a modern world where the population is growing, cities are expanding, the climate is changing and more food is needed, we urgently need healthy soils to ensure the essential services they provide. Sustainable management systems and practices will unlock the full potential of soils to support food production, store and supply clean water, preserve biodiversity, sequester more carbon and increase resilience to a changing climate” He briefed the researchers and faculty members of other department about the research activities so for his department has conducted for sustainable soil management. He said “Though AWKUM is newly established institution, however, we have made all possible efforts to satisfy the need of farmers and community in a very short spin of time”.
Dr. Kawsar Ali, who was the chief organizer of the seminar and alsoEdiotr-ib-Chief of International Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Research acknowledge the efforts of all faculty members of agriculture department and official partner of IJAER, The Eurasion school: International Education system. He praised the role of Eurasion School Director DrSabi Ur Rahman and declared him man of vision. While addressing the participants he said“Ladies and gentlemen, Agriculture Dpt AWKUM organized this event to discuss sustainable food systems and nutrition. One of the main conclusions is that healthy soils and healthy seeds are essential for producing healthy diets. And pulses play an important role in this equation, especially to improve the quality of soils. This is a symbiosis for life, which is the theme of our event today”.

Department of Computer Science at Timergara Campus Organised a Youth Festival
The Department of Computer Science at Timergara
Campus in Abdul Wali Khan University organised a Youth Festival to provide
youth a platform where they can show their talent. The main activities of the
festival were Research Workshop, Quiz Competition, Essay Competition, Book
Meela, Project Exhibition, Idea Exhibition and E-gaming Competition. Students from
all the departments especially from the department of Computer Science
participated in the event. Mr. Hassan Raza, a CS student, won the Essay
Competition. Quiz competition was won by the students from Computer Science
department. National speaker Mr. Inam Ullah Khan (Lecturer & Chief
Organizer) briefed the students about writing a research proposal and
scientific research paper. Miss Bisma Khan (Incbatee at IM Durshal) gave a
brief insight about personality grooming. Mr. Pir Ahmad Ali Shah, Project Coordinator
(Durshal, Mardan- KPITB) guided the students about upcoming projects of
Durshal/KPITB and evaluated students’ Final Year Projects. Mr. Abdur Rasheed,
Project Coordinator (Durshal, Swat- KPITB) and faculty members including Mr.
Ishtiaq Wahid (Focal Person, Department of Computer Science), Dr. Masood Khan,
Mr. Hammad Khan, Mr. Sheraz Muhammad Khan and Mr. Arjuman Yar Khan also
attended the event.

Mr. shah hussain, a phd scholar, department of
chemistry, published a paper, "Quartzite an efficient adsorbent for the
removal of anionic and cationic dyes from aqueous solutions" in Arabian Journal of Chemistry,
Impact factor 3.298
Dr. Amir Zada and dr. Zahid Hussain Published a Paper Impact Factor of 15.62
Dr. Amir Zada and dr.
Zahid Hussain department of chemistry have published a review paper in advanced
functional materials with impact factor of 15.62.
One Day Hands on Training Workshop Was Conducted By The CVS in Collaboration With ORIC
One
day hands on training workshop was conducted by the College of Veterinary
Sciences in collaboration with ORIC, AWKUM and Pakistan Biological Safety
Association (PBSA). Dean Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Sultan
Ayaz was the chief guest and Dr. Tahir Usman was the chief organizer cum stage
secretary of the workshop. President PBSA, KP chapter Dr. Javed Muhammad and
Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Qasim were the resource persons, whereas, Dr.
Anwer Hussain (Department of Botany) and Dr. Abdul Sajid (Principal), Dr. Irfan
Khattak and Dr. Mian Muhammad Salman from the College of Veterinary Sciences
were speakers in the event. Dr. Sadaf Niaz, Chairperson Department of Zooology,
many faculty members and huge number of students participated in the workshop
with much energy and enthusiasm.
The
speakers and resource persons delivered lectures and demonstrated practices
related to biosafety, biosecurity and waste management. They put emphasis on to
keep yourself, your co-workers and your environment free of potential risks
while working in life sciences laboratories.
At
the end of the workshop, Chief Organizer Dr. Tahir Usman and Principal
(CVS&AH) thanked the guests and participants and distributed shields and
certificates in the organizers, speakers and participants.
