Dr. Tahir Hussain, Assistant Professor from Department of Microbiology presents research at ECCMID-23 in Copenhagen, Denmark
Dr. Tahir Hussain, working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology was awarded a fully sponsored travel grant by Health Security Partners, USA to present his research work on, “The strategies for containment of AMR in Pakistan” in the international conference, titled, “33rd European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (ECCMID-23)”, held on April 15-18 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Every
year the European
Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) hold an annual congress in one
of the selected European country. The 2023 ECCMID was held in Copenhagen,
Denmark. The congress provides an opportunity for the scientists, researchers
and students from around the world working in the domains of clinical microbiology
and infectious diseases to share their research experiences with the
global scientific community. ECCMID is regarded one of the most prestigious and
largest events in microbiology in the Europe.
Dr. Tahir Hussain presented his exciting findings at the conference, and was able to make collaborations with scientists and policy makers from USA and Europe, which will be very beneficial in terms of research and educational opportunities for the students of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.

World Water Day 2023 Celebrated at The Department of Environmental Sciences, AWKUM
Department
of Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan with the financial
support from WaterAid Pakistan organized one day seminar after concluding a
week-long awareness campaign in Schools and Colleges in District Mardan to
commemorate and contribute the global movement for accelerating change to
achieve SDG 6 – clean water and sanitation for all. This was a part of the series of events organized by WaterAid Pakistan
across the country to celebrate and contribute toward the global observance to raise
awareness about the importance of fresh water and issues around poor WASH
services. Participants from academia, civil society
organizations, NGOs, water and sanitation service providers, practitioners and
government line department officials attended the event.
Dr.
Dilawar Farhan Shams, Chairman Department of the Environmental Sciences, AWKUM
welcomed the participants and discuss the aims and objectives of the seminar.
It was revealed that globally over 3.6 billion people, almost half of the world population, do not have
access to safely managed sanitation at their home. Similarly, in
Pakistan 4.5 million population don’t have access to drinking water along with 141
million to safe drinking water and 70 million people have limited access to
sanitation facilities. Dr. Shams Ali Baig delivered a keynote talk on the theme of
accelerating change to achieve the SDG targets. He highlighted the reason of
the off track in achieving SDG 6 and linked with the climate change induced
disasters. The importance of adequate WASH services in adhering good hygiene
practices to improve the overall quality of life were briefly discussed by the
panelists including, Dr. Wali Ullah Khan, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Dilawar
Farhan Shams, Department of Environmental Sciences, and Mr. Rahat Ullah,
Customer Service Manager WSSCM Mardan in the panel discussion.
At the end, Dr. Muhammad
Idris, Director Administration, AWKUM in his closing remarks reiterated the
importance of clean drinking water and thanked WaterAid Pakistan for the
financial support and choosing AWKUM for this event. He also distributed
certificates of appreciation and shield among the participants and organizer.
The event ended with a walk within the campus to raise awareness on the World Water
Day.

زور دیا کہ کس طرح ہم اس رمضان المبارک کو گزشتہ رمضان سے زیادہ بہتر اور
کارآمد بنا سکتے ہیں؟
انہوں نے اپنے خطاب میں فرمایا کہ
رمضان کا با برکت مہینہ کل سے شروع ہونے ولا ہے اور ہر ایک مسلمان کو
رمضان کے شب وروز کو دنیوی اور آخروی سعادت حاصل کرنے کیلئے پیشگی منصوبہ بندی
کرنی چاہیے ۔
ہمیں اس
ماہ مقدس سے زیادہ سے زیادہ فوائد سمیٹنے کے لیے سب سے پہلے اپنا
محاسبہ کرنا ہوگا خود احتسابی کا عمل نہایت ضروری ہے اس کے ساتھ ساتھ
اپنے خاندان کے افراد کی بہتری کے لیے ضروری اقدامات کرنے ہوں گے، اپنے کام
کرنے کی جگہ پر خود کو ایک دیانتدار معلم
،سٹو ڈنٹ ،ایک ذمہ دار شہری اور بہترین مسلمان کے طور پر پیش کرنا ہوگا اور
اس کے ساتھ ساتھ نبی کریم ﷺ کے ایک امتی کے طور پر اپنی ذمہ داری کو بجالانا ضروری
ہوگا۔

A flag hoisting ceremony was held on March 23 at SRH Campus Pabbi
Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan in which all the staff as well as Coordinator
participated. On this occasion, the
Coordinator SRH Campus Pabbi Mr. Adil Khan prayed for the security of the
country including the Campus and the University.
