AWKUM Achieves Milestone with Approval of Long-Pending Statutory Amendments
We are delighted to announce that the long-pending amendments in the University Statutes, initiated in 2018, have been approved by the Honorable Chancellor, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, AWKUM / Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Our sincere gratitude goes to the Honorable Chancellor, the Higher Education Department, and the members of the Statutes Review Committee — including representatives from the Finance, HED, and Establishment Departments — as well as to the former Vice Chancellors, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khurshid, Prof. Dr. Zahoor ul Haq, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, and Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, and former Registrars, Mr. Adil Khan, Mr. Muhammad Saleem, and Mr. Sayim Sohail, along with members of the Syndicate and Senate, for their valuable guidance and efforts in making this achievement possible.
It is equally important to acknowledge the dynamic and committed leadership of the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jamil Ahmad, whose vision and dedication were instrumental in bringing the long-pending amendments in the Statutes to fruition. Under his guidance, the Statutes were finalized and approved, paving the way for key institutional reforms. In addition, he has initiated transformative measures aimed at modernizing and strengthening AWKUM, including a comprehensive digitization drive, establishment of an Endowment Fund to ensure financial sustainability, launch of an online job portal, implementation of an ERP system, and solarization projects to promote energy efficiency. These initiatives reflect his unwavering commitment to the welfare of employees, students, and the broader community, and have laid a strong foundation for the University’s future development.
The approval of the amended Statutes paves the way for significant reforms, including promotion opportunities for support staff, updated Leave Statutes, a Grievance Redressal Mechanism, and other measures essential for institutional development.
This landmark milestone marks a new chapter in AWKUM’s growth and strengthens the University’s collective resolve to work together for sustained progress, transparency, stability, and excellence in higher education.
