MOU Signed Between AWKUM and Islamic Relief Pakistan


In order to promote public awareness and research in climate change and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) sectors, an MOU was signed between Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan and Islamic Relief Pakistan in a function organized in Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. On behalf of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Prof. Dr.  Muhammad Khurshid Khan Vice Chancellor and on behalf of Islamic Relief Pakistan Raza Nareju Head of Programmes signed the MOU.

Earlier, Dr. Shams Ali Baig Assistant Professor of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Mr. Raza Narejo Head of Programmes of Islamic Relief Pakistan highlighted the salient features of MoU and the possible joint engagements in public awareness and research on climate change, water, sanitation and hygiene. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khurshid Khan Vice Chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan emphasized the potential role of the universities to work for the cause of civil society and to play a role for the welfare of the people. They assured their cooperation and expressed their willingness and enthusiasm to tackle the challenges in environment and sustainability sectors which needs proper attention. Also, the worthy Vice Chancellor reiterated that the establishment of Pakhtunkhwa Economic Policy Research Institute at AWKUM in near future will play its role in formulating policies, like Climate Change policy, which will determine more clear direction towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or agenda 2030.

The event was also attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ul Haq, Dean Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Sultan Ayaz, Director ORIC Dr. Hazir Rahman and Deputy Registrar Dr. Tariq Mahmood from AWKUM, Syed Usman Area Program Manager, Mr. Muhammad Waseem Advocacy and Engagement Officer, Ms Summayyah Rasheed Advocacy Coordinator and Ms Zahra Durrani Advocacy and Research Officer from Islamic Relief Pakistan.

AWKUM Debating Society Held Its First Interdepartmental Bilingual Declamation Contest


AWKUM Debating Society Held its first interdepartmental bilingual declamation Contest on (13th March, 2019). A total of 48 students demonstrated their debating skills and impressed the judges and audience with their oratory, style, diction and articulation.  Prof. Dr. Aurangzeb graced the occasion as Chief Guest of the event. It is pertinent to mention that more than 24 female contestants demonstrated their debating skills.

The Chairperson of AWKUM Debating Society Ms Gullalie Anum Khan formally launched the foundation of the Debating Society. Speaking on this occasion, Ms Gullalie unveiled an ambitious plan to regularly host such events in order to transform the debating society of the university into a cradle of best speakers. In order to enhance the oratory skills of the students, she underlined the need for consistent engagement with all the departments, communication experts and further stressed the students’ encouragement to participate in the declamation and debates contests. She also thanked the organizers and the university administration who enabled the students to engage in highly enriching conversations; rich in terms of content, style, persuasion and expression. She highlighted that Mr. Imdad Ullah, a student of Environmental Sciences has been elected as the first president of the debating society. 

Mr. Muhammad Shahab Zaman from the department of Chemistry clinched first position in Urdu declamations while Ms. Sadia from the Department of BioChemistry stood first in English declamation contest. In urdu category, Mr. Imdad Ullah from the Department of Environmental sciences, Ms. Sara Qazi from the Department of English, and Ms. Adan Mustafa Khan from the Department of Psychology secured 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions respectively. Similarly, Mr. M Hamza Zakir from the Department of Law, Ms. Aleena Khalid from Department of Psychology and Mr. Usama Khan from the Department of Psychology secured 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
Ms. Gullalie Anum Khan specially thanked the AWKUM Vise Chancellor, Proctors, Provost, Deputy Provost, AWKUM Media Cell, other Departments and Coordinator Durshal Mardan Mr. Pir Amad for joining the student on this occasion.
