Muhammad Ilyas Khan Khalil from AWKUM's Department of Computer Science Successfully Defends PhD Thesis on Advanced Particle Swarm Optimization

 

Muhammad Ilyas Khan Khalil, a dedicated PhD scholar from the Department of Computer Science at AWKUM, successfully defended his PhD thesis in an open defense session. The event, held at the Department of Computer Science, was well-attended by faculty members, students, and notable guests.

The thesis, titled "Modified Particle Swarm Optimizers for Expensive & Multiobjective Optimization Problems," was supervised by Dr. Izaz Ur Rahman. The research work of Mr. Khalil was meticulously evaluated by esteemed examiners from both foreign and local institutions. The foreign examiners included Dr. Peiying Zhang, Associate Professor at China University of Petroleum (East China), and Dr. Muhammad Shafiq, Associate Professor at the Cyberspace Institute of Advanced Technology, Guangzhou University, China. The local examination was conducted by Dr. Muazzam Ali Khan Khattak, Professor at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

The defense session was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Sayed Islam, with Prof. Sher Afzal and Dr. Nadeem Iqbal, Chairperson of the Computer Science Department, in attendance. The session also saw the participation of Registrar AWKUM, Mr. Hassan Khan, and Director IT, Mr. Muhammad Rehan Swati. Local examiners Dr. Muazzam Ali Khan Khattak and Dr. Shah Nazir, Assistant Professor at the University of Swabi, were also present.

During the open defense, Mr. Khalil was rigorously questioned by the examiners and audience members. His thorough and insightful responses showcased his deep understanding of the subject, ultimately leading to the successful awarding of his PhD degree.

The event concluded with congratulatory remarks from the attendees, recognizing Muhammad Ilyas Khan Khalil's significant academic achievement.

AWKUM Celebrates 14th August with Green AWKUM, Green Pakistan Initiative

 

On 14th August, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) marked Pakistan's Independence Day with a series of patriotic and environmentally-focused activities. The celebration began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem and a flag-hoisting ceremony. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Vice-Chancellor of AWKUM, delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the importance of national unity and the role of education in nation-building. He highlighted that our independence was achieved through immense sacrifices and underscored that it is now our duty to work for the betterment of the country. Prayers for the prosperity of the nation and the University were also offered.

The event featured speeches and presentations by students, who expressed their love for the country through passionate performances of national anthems. Following the formal proceedings, the University Advancement Cell & Career Development Centre, in collaboration with the Directorate of Administrations, launched a plantation drive under the theme "Green AWKUM, Green Pakistan."

The plantation drive was supported by generous donations of plants from Arctic Associates-2, Walls Ice Cream Pakistan, and Zama Kor, with co-sponsorship from the District Youth Office Mardan. The drive was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, with active participation from faculty, staff, and students.

In his closing remarks, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor presented certificates of appreciation to the sponsors and students who contributed to the event's success. He emphasized the critical importance of plantation for the survival of future generations, announcing that the drive would continue throughout the week as part of the University's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.

AWKUM Faculty Members Present Papers at International Symposium on Eco Art

Three distinguished faculty members from Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) were honored to present their research at the "Eco Art: Green Latif-Nature and Culture International Symposium 2024," organized by SABS University of Arts, Design and Heritage, Jamshoro, Sindh. The symposium, held on August 5-6, 2024, in Jamshoro and Karachi, attracted scholars from various regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Baluchistan, Sindh, Italy, and Australia.

Dr. Syed Rashid Ali, Associate Professor of Sociology at AWKUM, presented his paper titled "Notes on Bhittai’s Poetry: A Socio-ecological Reflection" on the first day of the symposium. His research explored the socio-ecological dimensions in the poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, a revered Sufi poet.

Dr. Liaqat Iqbal, Associate Professor of English, delivered a paper on "Phonological Patterns in Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Poetry: A Linguistic Analysis of Sounds and Symbolism," analyzing the intricate phonological patterns and their symbolic significance in Bhittai’s work.

Dr. Rafiq Nawab, Assistant Professor of English, presented his research on "Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s Poetry: Reflecting Deep Ecological Cognizance and Human Connection to Nature." His paper highlighted the profound ecological awareness embedded in Bhittai's poetry and its reflection on the human-nature relationship.

The symposium, which gathered academic minds from around the world, provided a platform for enriching discussions on the intersection of nature, culture, and art.
