A one day seminar regarding Halal Food and Certification was held
on 5/12/2018 at the conference hall of HPE. The seminar was organized by ORIC
with the cooperation of Department of Agriculture and Department of
Botany. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hamayun, Dr.
Hazir Rehman, Prof. Dr. Waheed Murad, Dr. Amjad Iqbal, Dr. Ziaullah Khan, Dr.
Farooq Shah, Dr. Adil Hussain, Dr. Muhammad Ali, Dr. Muhammad Imtiaz, Dr. Said
Hussain, Dr. Fazal Said, Dr. Fazal Jalal and a large number of students has
attended the seminar. The seminar delivered by Mr. Khalid from Halal Food
Certification was well received by the experts in the field and students. At
the end of the seminar the Halal Food Certification, agreed to sign MOU with
AWKUM and to train students from the Department of Microbiology and Department
of Agriculture (Specialization Food Science and Technology).

It is a great pleasure for the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan,
that Assoc. Prof. Dr Muhammad Azam Khan Chairman Department of Economics was
invited Guest Speaker and delivered a talk on “Research Methods in Social
Sciences” organized by the Department of Economics, Abbottabad University of
Sciences & Technology, Abbottabad on 6 December 2018. The worthy Vice Chancellor
graced the occasion and also give a shield as a token of appreciation to Dr
Muhammad Azam Khan.

Suliman head of Department of Chemistry and Faculty members of the Department

Lecturer Department of Sociology Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan presented a
research paper in International
Conference on Gender Studies “Gender Misrepresentations” in Lucy Cavendish
College, University of Cambridge United Kingdom (1-2, December 2018).
The research
paper “Men’s Decision Making: The
Determinant of Home Delivery among Women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan” mainly focused to study the men’s
decision making and its influence on choice of delivery place among Pakhtun
Women in the study area (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa).
The researcher presented the poor maternal health
condition in Pakistan and particularly in the study area. The presentation
covered the Three Delay (3D) model and conceptual framework to state the
various men’s dominant factors and their significant association with poor
maternal health.
The major findings show the highly significant correlation
between men’s decision making and women’s restriction from accessibility and
utilization of maternal health care in the study area. Similarly due to women
subordinate position they are confined to domestic sphere for antenatal care
and child delivery. Dr. Olena Lytovka & Anastasya Manuilova, London Center
for Interdisciplinary Research, United Kingdom chair the session. The chair
appreciated the work focused on one of the important gender issue and shared in
their views that women in Pakistan especially in the study area in the worse
health condition which need to addressed by the involvement of government
functionaries and civil society organizations. At the end of conference certificate
was presented to researcher by the chair.

Department of Environmental Sciences’ project stood second in the Regional Science Olympiad, Organized by DOST
Directorate of Science and Technology (DOST),
Government of KPK under its program “Promotion and Support of Scientific
Innovation” organized one day open competition for science based innovative
ideas, projects and prototypes among universities in KPK. Department of
Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) participated
in the event and displayed the findings and product of Mr. Sajjad Ali (MS
scholar) project on “Integrated bio-briquetting technology and energy efficient
stove for sustainable fuel supply and environment protection”. The project is
supervised by Dr. Shams Ali Baig. It is worthy to mention here that the field based
project activities are also in progress under the AWKUM-HEC joint Social
Integration Outreach Program (SIOP-2018). Over 1000 local community members
have been trained; several orientation activities have been organized in
Schools and Colleges in Mardan District to disseminate knowledge and hands-on
skills on bio-briquetting. In addition, one day workshop for Government Line
Departments, NGOs, private companies and entrepreneurs was organized to
strengthen networking and promotion of the scientific innovation (i.e.
bio-briquette). So, the underprivileged communities get benefits of such
prototype and it helps them to improve their livelihoods and promote
environmentally sustainable living.
