World Water Day 2023 Celebrated at The Department of Environmental Sciences, AWKUM

 

Department of Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan with the financial support from WaterAid Pakistan organized one day seminar after concluding a week-long awareness campaign in Schools and Colleges in District Mardan to commemorate and contribute the global movement for accelerating change to achieve SDG 6 – clean water and sanitation for all.  This was a part of the series of events organized by WaterAid Pakistan across the country to celebrate and contribute toward the global observance to raise awareness about the importance of fresh water and issues around poor WASH services. Participants from academia, civil society organizations, NGOs, water and sanitation service providers, practitioners and government line department officials attended the event.

Dr. Dilawar Farhan Shams, Chairman Department of the Environmental Sciences, AWKUM welcomed the participants and discuss the aims and objectives of the seminar. It was revealed that globally over 3.6 billion people, almost half of the world population, do not have access to safely managed sanitation at their home. Similarly, in Pakistan 4.5 million population don’t have access to drinking water along with 141 million to safe drinking water and 70 million people have limited access to sanitation facilities. Dr. Shams Ali Baig delivered a keynote talk on the theme of accelerating change to achieve the SDG targets. He highlighted the reason of the off track in achieving SDG 6 and linked with the climate change induced disasters. The importance of adequate WASH services in adhering good hygiene practices to improve the overall quality of life were briefly discussed by the panelists including, Dr. Wali Ullah Khan, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Dilawar Farhan Shams, Department of Environmental Sciences, and Mr. Rahat Ullah, Customer Service Manager WSSCM Mardan in the panel discussion.

At the end, Dr. Muhammad Idris, Director Administration, AWKUM in his closing remarks reiterated the importance of clean drinking water and thanked WaterAid Pakistan for the financial support and choosing AWKUM for this event. He also distributed certificates of appreciation and shield among the participants and organizer. The event ended with a walk within the campus to raise awareness on the World Water Day.

شعبہ اسلامیات اور انگلش میں  آج 22 مارچ 2023 کو سیرت نبوی ﷺ کی روشنی میں  استقبال رمضان 2023 اور ہماری تیاریاں کے عنوان سے زیر صدارت پروفیسر ڈاکٹر آیاز احمد،چئرمین شعبہ انگلش  ایک پر وقار تقریب کا اہتمام کیا گیا۔

ڈاکٹر سہیل أنور کوارڈینیٹر ایم فل پروگرام،ڈاکٹر محمد ذکریا کوارڈینیٹر بی ایس پروگرام،ڈاکٹر لیاقت اقبال کوارڈینیٹر بی ایس انگلش پروگرام،ڈاکٹر عرفان اللہ اسسٹنٹ پروفیسر،ڈاکٹر ابظاہر خان ایسو سی ایٹ پروفیسر ،دیگر فیکلٹی ممبران،اسسٹنگ سٹاف اور طلبہ طالبات نے کثیر تعداد میں شرکت کی۔

چیئرمین ڈپیارٹمنٹ آف اسلامک سٹڈیز عبدالولی خان یونیورسٹی مردان پروفیسر ڈاکٹر حافظ صالح الدین نے ریسور پرسن کی حیثیت سے اپنے فرائض سر انجام دیے۔

تمہید ی کلمات ڈاکٹر لیاقت اقبال جب کہ تعارفی بات  ڈاکٹر سہیل أنور نے پیش کیا۔

پرو فیسر ڈاکٹر صالح الدین نے  اپنے لیکچر میں  رمضا ن المبارک کے لیے خود کو روحانی طور پر تیار کرنے پر زور دیا  کہ کس طرح ہم اس رمضان المبارک کو گزشتہ رمضان سے زیادہ بہتر اور کارآمد بنا سکتے ہیں؟ 

انہوں نے اپنے خطاب میں فرمایا کہ رمضان کا با برکت مہینہ   کل سے شروع ہونے ولا ہے اور ہر ایک مسلمان کو رمضان کے شب وروز کو دنیوی اور آخروی سعادت حاصل کرنے کیلئے پیشگی منصوبہ بندی کرنی چاہیے ۔ 

 ہمیں  اس  ماہ مقدس سے  زیادہ سے زیادہ فوائد سمیٹنے کے لیے سب  سے پہلے اپنا محاسبہ کرنا ہوگا خود احتسابی کا عمل نہایت ضروری ہے  اس کے ساتھ ساتھ  اپنے خاندان  کے افراد کی بہتری کے لیے ضروری اقدامات کرنے ہوں گے، اپنے کام کرنے کی جگہ پر خود کو  ایک دیانتدار معلم ،سٹو ڈنٹ ،ایک ذمہ دار شہری  اور بہترین مسلمان کے طور پر پیش کرنا ہوگا اور اس کے ساتھ ساتھ نبی کریم ﷺ کے ایک امتی کے طور پر اپنی ذمہ داری کو بجالانا ضروری ہوگا۔ 

آپ نے فرمایا کہ ہمیں رمضان المبارک میں لایعنی کاموں  ،  بیسیار خوری  ،  فضول خرچی،  اور دیگربرے اعمال  سے اجتناب کرنا ہوگا  اور اس کے ساتھ فرائض کی ادائیگی ،  قرآن کریم کی تلاوت،ذکر و اذکار،   نفلی عبادات ، تہجد اور صدقات  کا اہتمام کرنا ہوگا۔

A flag hoisting ceremony was held on March 23 at SRH Campus Pabbi Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan in which all the staff as well as Coordinator participated.  On this occasion, the Coordinator SRH Campus Pabbi Mr. Adil Khan prayed for the security of the country including the Campus and the University.

A week-long awareness campaign on the eve of World Water Day 2023

 

Department of Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan with the financial support from WaterAid Pakistan has started a week-long awareness campaign in Schools and Colleges in District Mardan to commemorate and contribute the global movement for accelerating changes to achieve SDG 6 – clean water and sanitation for all.  The awareness campaign will continue till March 20, followed by a seminar on March 21, 2023. AWKUM teams conducting comprehensive awareness sessions covering the role of students in awareness raising around the theme; like, clean drinking water, adequate sanitation facilities and hygienic behavior in approving the overall health and hygiene conditions of the society. Overwhelmingly responses were received from the students and they took keen interest to interlink the poor WASH services with poor health and adequate WASH services with improved health and hygiene conditions’ conceptual model. WaterAid Pakistan and the Department of Environmental Sciences will continue to play their due roles in accelerating awareness among different stakeholders to put on track the SDG 6:  clean water and sanitation for all.
