Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan's Department of Psychology Organized a Seminar on "Suicide Prevention: A Mental Health Issue"

In commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day, the Department of Psychology at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan organized a one-day seminar titled "Suicide Prevention: A Mental Health Issue." The event aimed to shed light on the critical issue of suicide prevention and raise awareness of its implications.

Dr. Tahir Farid, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, led the seminar, imparting valuable insights into suicide prevention strategies, risk factors, and its perception within the Islamic context. The seminar provided an in-depth understanding of the importance of mental health and the steps that can be taken to prevent suicide.

Dr. Farid emphasized the need for open discussions and awareness campaigns to combat the growing concerns surrounding mental health and suicide. He stated, "Addressing mental health issues and promoting suicide prevention is a collective responsibility. We must create a supportive environment where individuals can seek help without fear of stigma."

The event concluded on a powerful note with a walk organized under the supervision of Professor Dr. Zahir Shah, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Faculty members, students, and participants carried placards advocating for suicide awareness, displaying messages of hope and encouragement.

Professor Dr. Shah praised the initiative, saying, "It is crucial to tackle the stigma associated with mental health problems. Events like these play a significant role in fostering a community that is supportive, empathetic, and ready to help those in need."

The seminar and awareness walk held by the Department of Psychology at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan showcased a strong commitment to addressing mental health challenges and suicide prevention. By raising awareness and encouraging open conversations, the university is taking proactive steps to make a positive impact on the well-being of its community and beyond.
