AWKUM Hosts Successful Cooking Skill Competition: Showcasing Culinary Talents and Boosting Employability

 

The Youth Development Centre (YDC), Tourism & Hospitality Department at AWKUM in collaboration with District Youth Office Mardan and Al Hamra Banquets organized a Cooking Skill Competition. The main objective of this activity was to provide undergraduate students a platform to showcase their culinary skills talent and explore other areas of employability and businesses. Career counseling, entrepreneurship skills development, job placements and encouraging other co-curricular activities were other striking features of the event. The first round started from May 21-23, 2024. Twelve teams from various departments participated in the competition. The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Sher Afzal (Dean, Faculty of Business & Economics AWKUM). 

The final round was held on May 28, 2024. The first position was grabbed by the Department of Food Science &Technology; the second position was secured by the University College for Women AWKUM and the third position was secured by the Department of Computer Sciences Timergara Campus.

The Judges of the event comprised Mr. Asad Raza, MS Asia Baig, MS Robina Zakir, and MS Maria Shaheen who for their discerning palates, attention to detail, and fair evaluations have ensured that every participant received the recognition they deserve. The feedback provided by the panel has not only highlighted the talents of these contestants but also inspired them to reach new culinary heights.

Addressing the concluding ceremony, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir (Vice Chancellor AWKUM), extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding talent and creativity, which truly impressed everyone. I also wish to thank our esteemed judges for their meticulous evaluations and valuable feedback, as well as the organizers (Dr. Zia Ullah, Dr. Ijaz, and Dr. Shah Hussain Awan) and volunteers whose efforts have ensured the success of this event. The VC also thanked the HEC for establishing YDC at AWKUM and praised the efforts of the focal person Dr. Zia Ullah. He also thanked District Youth Officer Mardan and Al Hamra Banquets for their support as sponsors of the event.

In the end, the Vice Chancellor distributed shields and certificates among position holders, participants, and the organizers.

An orientation session for students conducted at Shaheed Rashid Hussain Campus, Pabbi

 

An orientation session for students was conducted on the Digital Skills Training Program & Establishing Job Linkages for the Youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was conducted at Shaheed Rashid Hussain Campus, Pabbi, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. This initiative, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is being implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with Empowerment thru Creative Integration (ECI) Pvt Ltd.

The session aimed to provide an overview of the digital skills training program, which is designed to equip the youth from various regions including D.I. Khan, North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Tank, Khyber, Charsadda, and Nowshera with essential digital competencies. Additionally, the program focuses on establishing job linkages to enhance employment opportunities for these young individuals.

The Dar-Ul-Shifa Hospital and UCW observed “Nutrition Expo 2024”

 

The Dar-Ul-Shifa Hospital and UCW observed “Nutrition Expo 2024” on Tuesday, May 07, 2024.

The purpose of this event was to spread awareness among the students and faculty about the importance of good Nutrition. People nowadays, especially the young generation, face a lot of health problems mostly because of a weak knowledge of a healthy diet. The craze about having a fit and slim body has led the young generation toward a state of weak physical health.

The organizer of the event, Dr. Naseem Rafiq, Principal UCW found it important to enlighten the students about a healthy diet plan to keep them not only healthy but also fit in all respects.

Various stalls in this regard were arranged including food stalls (most of them home made), stalls of natural processed foods, Arts and craft stalls and stalls of medical consultants.

Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences honored the occasion as Chief Guest. After the inauguration the guests visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts of the participants. The guests and visitors pressed on the need for such events for a healthy generation.
















A Session on Mental Health of Young Girls

 

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, University College for Women, in collaboration with the Population Welfare Department Mardan, organized a seminar focusing on the mental health of young girls. The session delved into the topic of "Psychological Challenges Encountered by Teenage Girls," exploring crucial issues like managing anger, coping with social pressures, nurturing emotional well-being, and fostering self-esteem. Renowned psychologist Dr. Naveeda Khattak and her team from the ASRH department at DHQ Hospital Mardan graced the event as guest speakers, sharing their expertise to the benefit of the students.











Hands on training was organized at the Department of Microbiology, AWKUM

 

Hands on training was organized on Biorisk Management at the Department of Microbiology, AWKUM in collaboration with Health Security Partnerr, USA.

The students got practical training in biosafety, biosecurity, hand hygiene, donning & doffing of PPE, spill management, waste management, needle stick injury, GMPPs, and safe handling and storage of chemicals.

The training equipped the students to deal the pathogens, toxins, biological materials, sharps, spill and chemicals in the laboratory to strengthen biosafety and biosecurity controls in the laboratory.

The trainers of the workshop including Dr. Hazir Rahman, Chairman, Department of Microbiology, AWKUM, and Dr. Qasim, Chairman, Department of Microbiology, KUST provided conducive learning environment for productive training.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Vice chancellor AWKUM and Prof. Dr. Zahid Hussain, Dean Faculty of Chemical and Life sciences grace the occasion and emphasized on the importance of such practical training for life science students. They appreciated the efforts of Dr. Hazir Rahman for organizing such events at AWKUM. They pay vote of thanks to the team of HSP including Dr. Samreen, Dr. Aziz Ur Rahman and Dr. Uzair for technical and financial support to make a successful event.

Lastly shields and certificate were distributed among the participants.
