Department of Geology Conducts Mandatory Field Module in the Northern Himalayan Region

Geological fieldwork constitutes a fundamental component of geoscience education, providing essential hands-on experience in the observation, description, and interpretation of Earth materials and structures. The Department of Geology at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) has successfully conducted its mandatory field module within the northern Himalayan domains of Pakistan.
During this field activity, students were systematically exposed to one of the world’s most spectacular and well-preserved geological records in the Pakistan Himalayas. The field module offered participants valuable opportunities to engage directly with diverse geological formations, enhancing their practical understanding of theoretical concepts taught in the classroom.
Such initiatives reflect the department’s commitment to delivering high-quality, experience-based learning, ensuring that students develop the critical skills required for professional growth in the field of geosciences.

Field Visit to Karakar Tunnel Project Enhances Practical Learning for Geology Students

An insightful field visit to the Karakar Tunnel Project was organized for 8th-semester research students of the Department of Geology, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, under the supervision of Mr. Junaid Ali Shah.

The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by providing students with hands-on exposure to real-world geological and engineering challenges. During the visit, students closely observed rock formations, structural features, and various aspects of tunneling operations on-site.

Such academic activities play a vital role in enhancing students’ understanding and professional competence, enabling them to relate classroom learning with field realities. The enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication demonstrated by the students were highly commendable.
