LL.M. Students from Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan Engage in Educational Interaction with Honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan

 

Under the Guidance of Dr. Rizwana Shah and Dr. Raza Shah Gillani, Law Students Immerse Themselves in Judicial Insights.

In a unique and enriching experience, LL.M. students from the Department of Law at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan were granted the exceptional opportunity to meet with the Honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Faiz Essa. Supervised by esteemed faculty members Dr. Rizwana Shah and Dr. Raza Shah Gillani, the students embarked on a visit that offered valuable insights into the workings of the judicial system.

During this visit, the students engaged in a dynamic and interactive session with Honorable Justice Jamal Mandokhail, gaining a deeper understanding of legal proceedings and the intricacies of the legal profession. As part of their educational journey, they were also given the unique chance to witness the hearing and court proceedings of the Bhutto reference case, providing them with a firsthand experience of the legal processes in action.

Adding to the educational immersion, the students explored the Supreme Court museum, delving into the historical aspects of the judiciary and gaining a broader perspective on the evolution of the legal system in the country.

This visit not only allowed the students to supplement their academic knowledge with real-world experiences but also provided them with a platform to interact with and learn from some of the most distinguished legal minds in the nation. Such initiatives contribute significantly to the holistic development of aspiring legal professionals, preparing them for the challenges and responsibilities of the legal field.

Dr. Syed Raza Shah Gilani, Assistant Professor of Law, Successfully Completed his PhD



Dr. Syed Raza Shah Gilani, Assistant Professor at Abdul Wali khan University Mardan has successfully completed his PhD in Law from Brunel University, London. During his Doctoral program he managed to bag many distinctions and awards. He published three articles in international Journals and served as an Assistant Editor of an international Journal. School of Law, Brunel University awarded him the best research scholar of 2018. He successfully presented a number of scientific articles in top ranking Universities of Europe in Geneva, Paris and Istanbul. 

His thesis titled, “The significance of the doctrine of proportionality in the context of militant democracy to protect the freedom of expression” was evaluated by Dr. Alexandra Xanthaki, Prof of Law at Brunel University London, Stephen Berry from Oxford University and Dr. Philip Larkin at Queens University Belfast. He recently rejoined the Department of Law, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, which will further strengthen the faculty and elevate the quality of education and research to international standards.

Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan Journal of Law and Human Rights (AWKUM JLHR) is a peer-reviewed journal published bi-annually by the Department of Law, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. AWKUM JLHR hereby invites you to submit your original/quality research papers, articles, case studies, legislative reviews and book reviews for the second issue of the journal to be published in June-July 2019.

One-Day Seminar Arranged by PIO office AWKUM on RTI Law


A one-day seminar was arranged by PIO office AWKUM on 5th of March 2019 at IBL, Garden Campus on Right to Information Law. The purpose of this gathering was to bring awareness among the citizens about RTI law. It was highlighted by the speakers that transparency of information plays a vital role in smooth functioning of democracy and improving its governance, reduce corruption and to held public functionaries accountable before their citizens. The main participants were Honorable Chief Guest Mr. Azmat Hanif Orakzai (Chief Commissioner, KP Information Commission), Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khurshid, Prof. Dr. Zahoor-ul-Haq, Respected Deans and HODs, Public Information Officer (PIO) M. Aqeel Khan, Respected Faculty, Administrative staff and students from various departments including Law.  Assistant Prof. Law Ms. Ayesha Rasool hosted the event.

Department of Law "One Day Study Trip to KP Judicial Academy"


The Department of Law, AWKUM with collaboration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy Peshawar arranged ONE DAY STUDY TRIP & GROUP DISCUSSION with the Law Students on 12.12.2018. Miss Ayesha Rasool Assistant Professor Law & Mr. Aqeel Khan Assistant Professor led the session. While students of LLB Semester XI & Semester VII participated in the Group Talk.

One Day Workshop On Refugees Laws In Pakistan Arranged By Department of Law In Collaboration With UNHCR At AWKUM



On 11 December 2018 one day workshop on Refugees Laws, International Human Rights Law & Status of Afghan Refugees in Pakistan was arranged by Department of Law, AWKUM in collaboration with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The workshop started at 0930 hrs with the recitation of the Holy Quran. After that  Prof. Dr. Zahid Ali Marwat, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, AWKUM during his opening speech, welcomed the participants, guest speakers and said that it is important for the Law students to involve their self in co-curricular activities. The Chairperson of the Department of Law Mr. Ashraf Ali, Associate Professor shed light on the importance of Refugees Laws especially in Pakistan as around 3 million Afghan Refugees are living in Pakistan. The guest speakers Mr. Sahibzada Muhammad Younis & Mr. Muzaffar Khan discussed the Fundamental Human Rights, UN Charter of Human Rights & Refugees Convention 1951, while a separate session was arranged for question and answers. The students participated during whole session. The workshop ended with vote of thanks by Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences on the behalf of Honorable Vice-Chancellor, AWKUM. While the UNHCR delegates express his valuable views about the warm welcome by the University and providing security and refreshment. In the last certificates were distributed among the faculty members and students.
